Henry is not impressed

Picked up a bench seat from a guy in Newberg.  I'll be taking it to Scottie's Upholstery in Hillsboro to get it redone.  Currently Henry isn't too impressed but when its done I think he'll change his tune!

In for rust repair!

I'll be without the K10 for a couple of weeks.  I dropped it off at Tony's in Gaston, OR for rust repair.  He will be replacing floor pans, inner/outer rockers and kick panels on both sides.  He will also be installing the new clam shell mirrors and filling in numerous holes in the cab as well as in the bed and on the bed sidewalls.  Then she'll be ready for paint!  Here are some before pictures of the problem areas.

New Exhaust

New exhaust!  I had some pretty significant exhaust leaks.  Needed a new exhaust system from the headers to tips.  Mike in Gaston did the work and I think he did a great job for a great price!  Let me know if you need any exhaust work done near Gaston, OR and I'll give you a referral.

Walkaround #2

A short video of inside and out early in the restoration.  Dash bezel and door panels have been removed and new tires and wheels are on.  Everything else is as I received the truck from good old pops!  Thanks again Dad for this great classic truck!!

Gauge Cluster Refresh

I had some lights out in my gauge cluster as well as some rust and dust.  I removed the entire cluster which wasn't easy due to the mechanical oil pressure gauge with connected oil pressure line (tip below).  I cleaned everything up, shot the surround with black paint, repainted the faded needles with silver needle paint, replaced the printed circuit, lens cover, and all the bulbs with LEDs (green for signals, red for brake and check engine and blue everywhere else.  Before and after shots below.

TIP:  To remove the gauge cluster with a mechanical oil pressure gauge and oil pressure line don't try to remove the line from behind the cluster.  First unscrew the oil pressure gauge and carefully pull it toward you until you can see the bolt securing the line to the gauge and unbolt it that way.  DO NOT START YOUR TRUCK WHILE THE LINE IS DISCONNECTED FROM THE GAUGE!!!

Rust Walkaround

I had an opportunity to visit the K10 while in the shop having some mechanical work done before my pops handed over the keys.  Check out the video below.

Work performed:
  • New battery box and battery
  • New gas tanks (left and right)
  • Rebuilt carburetor
  • General tune up

It Begins

I will be documenting the process of doing a partial restore on my 1977 Chevy Scottsdale K10 Short Bed Square Body.  I'll be sharing some tips as well as people I used for exhaust, rust repair, painting and parts.  Drop me a line if you have any questions or suggestions.
